Sustainable Design and Development

OBJECTIVE

OBJECTIVE

The main objective of the ASLA PPN on Sustainable Design and Development is to help collect, advance, and disseminate information on sustainable design practice and theory within the field of landscape architecture and affiliated fields. In this realm we seek to establish and maintain alliances with ASLA National, USGBC, AIA, ULI, APA, and other organizations with similar focus.

We plan to research and make available references and documents related to our cause and strive to have a strong presence at both the local and national level through our web page, conferences, and publications. Eventually we anticipate gaining international alliances and affiliations to strengthen the influence of sustainable design.

The ASLA Sustainable Design and Development PPN’s secondary role, but initial impetus, is to provide the motivation, drive, and framework for the development and implementation of a site based rating system. The sustainable site rating system to be produced through the Sustainable Sites Initiative continues through a large, multi-organizational effort led by ASLA, the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, and the US Botanic Garden. This rating system is particularly targeted toward the designer or developer of a landscape site, park, infrastructure, or other non-building project.

We invite you to join the Sustainable Design and Development PPN. Your membership dues help us pursue our goals and disseminate information in a timely and efficient manner. You membership also gives you access to an online network with a discussion forum, and updates on the development of the Sustainable Sites Initiative. Members will be asked to comment and report on findings and product drafts.

To join our PPN you can call the ASLA membership line @ 1.888.999.ASLA, or send or fax in the membership form available from http://www.ASLA.org/members/ppn/home.htm, or if you are an ASLA member you can sign up on line once you have logged in on the main page.
